  • Neither of these essential fatty acids can be produced by our bodies, therefore they must come from our diets.
  • The balance of Omega 3 to Omega 6 essential fatty acids is critical. An optimal balance would be 3-Omega 3’s to 1-Omega 6.
  • Most people it has been found ingest more Omega 6 essential fatty acids than Omega 3’s.
  • Omega 6 essential fatty acids, in the proper amounts are critical to maintaining normal blood pressure and serum cholesterol.
  • The foods that are rich in Omega 6’s include flax seeds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds and olive oil.
  • Omega 3 essential fatty acids are even more important. Because most people are out of balance with their Omega 6’s, Omega 3’s need to be ingested in high amounts. What happened? Why are the two so out of balance?

Since modern farming and animal husbandry practices have replaced small farming operations, there has been a tremendous decline in Omega 3’s. Commercial beef and dairy products no longer contain them as they once did. When cows were pastured, in the days of old, eating green grass, their meat and milk contained high levels of this important antioxidant ingredient.

Today, modern agriculture raises them on corn, an ingredient very high in Omega 6’s, and thus upsets the balance, triggering an inflammatory reaction. The myriad of inflammatory diseases include, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and asthma…to name just a few.
